Counselling for Individuals

“Knowing others is wisdom, knowing yourself is Enlightenment.”
(Lao Tzu)

Short term and long term therapy.

Individuals seek therapy when something in their life is causing concern and they are finding it difficult to cope. There are many different models of counselling and my core model is psychodynamic. This model of counselling can help clients to explore personal issues around bereavement, separation, depression, relationship issues, anxiety & stress, low self–confidence, recent trauma, unexplained anger, low feelings, uncertainty about decisions made or needing to be made, work related issues and other emotional and behavioural problems.

At times issues from our past can impact on the present, and in the session I will support the client to think, and reflect, on how these events and experiences may have impacted on who they are today. In therapy, I support clients to review emotions, thoughts, early-life experiences and beliefs. The client is supported to gain insight into their lives and their present-day problems. The client will have space where they can explore and evaluate the patterns that they may have developed over time.

The first step for the client is to find a counsellor and I offer an initial one hour session where the client can talk about their issues and explore why they are seeking support at this time. As part of the counselling journey, in a confidential and non-judgmental space clients explore how past events and experiences may now be influencing present behaviours and decisions. I aim to work with clients so they can explore the possibility for change, to find their own solutions and look at how this can be achieved in therapy.

We will establish whether we can work together and agree the best way forward. If counselling is not the preferred choice I will sign post the client to alternatives which may include other outside Agencies or professionals. I offer a relationship that is compassionate, respectful and collaborative.
